Today’s devotional for Men is on the topic “Set Goals Based on Your Identity.” This devotional teaches men on how to be goal-driven and how this will be based on their identity.

Bible Verse:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
Brother,
As men, we’re often tempted to base our goals on what the world tells us success looks like. Whether it’s wealth, power, or recognition, society measures us by what we achieve. But God calls us to a higher standard. Our identity in Christ is the foundation upon which we should build our goals—not the shifting sands of worldly approval.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, created with purpose and intention. You are not here by accident. God designed you with specific gifts, talents, and a unique calling. When you set goals that align with who you are in Christ, you live out His plan for your life. These goals aren’t just about what you can gain but about how you can serve, grow, and glorify Him.
Start by asking yourself: Who does God say I am? You are His child, redeemed, chosen, and called to reflect His love in the world. When you truly understand your identity, you’ll see that your goals should align with His purpose for you. Instead of chasing temporary success, you’ll pursue eternal impact.
Setting goals based on your identity in Christ means seeking His guidance first. Spend time in prayer and ask Him to reveal the areas where He wants you to grow. Maybe it’s becoming a better leader in your family, developing discipline in your work, or stepping out in faith to serve others. Whatever it is, trust that God will equip you for the tasks He has prepared for you.
It’s also important to be intentional about the kind of man you’re becoming, not just what you’re achieving. Are your goals helping you grow in character? Are they drawing you closer to God? Success isn’t about reaching a destination; it’s about becoming the person God has called you to be along the way.
Lastly, don’t forget that God’s timing is perfect. Sometimes our goals don’t happen as quickly as we’d like. But when you align your goals with your identity in Christ, you can trust that He will guide your steps and bring things to pass in His time. Stay patient, stay faithful, and stay focused on Him.
Prayer for the Day:
Dear God,
Thank You for creating me with purpose and calling me Your child. Help me to set goals that align with who You’ve called me to be. Give me wisdom to focus on what truly matters and the courage to pursue Your will for my life. Teach me to trust in Your timing and to be patient in the process. Strengthen me to walk faithfully in the plans You’ve prepared for me. Thank You for being my guide and my source of strength.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Brother, remember this: Your identity is in Christ, not in what you achieve. Set goals that reflect His calling on your life and trust Him to lead you. When you live for God’s purpose, your life will have meaning beyond what this world can offer. Walk boldly, knowing who you are and Whose you are.
