He Lived in Compassion Toward Others

Devotional for Today, November 8, 2025

Topic: He Lived in Compassion Toward Others

Matthew 9:36 “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them…” (NIV)

We are continuing our series on “We Owe a Personal Debt” where we are looking at how Jesus lived on Earth – drawing lessons on how we ought to live in order to pay the debt we owe God.

Today’s devotional focuses on how Jesus loved people. Love for others expressed in our actions is a pivotal part of Christianity.

In 1 Corinthians 13:1-4, we see Apostle Paul listing very noble things but counting them as nothing.

He says if he speaks in tongues of men and angels, has the gift of prophecy and can fathom every mystery or knowledge, has a faith that can move mountains, and gives everything he has to the poor but does not have love – everything can be counted as nothing.

While Apostle Paul seemed to talk down on action, love is more than a feeling and must be expressed in actions.

For Jesus, when he saw the people, He was moved to feed them, teach them, pray for them, heal them, forgive their sins, deliver them from their bondage, and more.

For us, compassion to others will propel us to share the message of the gospel to the people who have not heard it, pray for them, reach out to those who are less privileged than us, not pay evil for evil, and so on.

The world desires love and there is no better time for believers to be blazing examples of what love truly is than to shine the love of Christ to others. As we have embraced the love of Christ, it is our duty to minister that love to the world.

Each day offers us a new opportunity to let the world see the love of Christ in us.

From preaching the message of the Gospel to praying for someone who will never know that you did to clothing the needy to extending philanthropic help and more.

We ought to express love to everyone – believers and unbelievers alike.

Prayer for the Day

Father, sometimes loving can be hard especially when the other person is difficult. But I ask for the grace to love. The kind of love that made you look at the people who crucified you and still prayed kindly for them. Amen.
