Topic: He Lived in Total Obedience

Verse: Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. – John 4:34 (KJV)

We began yesterday by talking about how we owe a personal debt. This debt is consequent upon the fact that our lives are supposed to be lived in honor of the One who purchased us.

This is what Apostle Paul was trying to say in Galatians 2:20:

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

The life that we now live, this physical life, we live for Christ, by Christ, and in accordance to His will.

And we ended yesterday by saying that we ought to look at the life of Jesus and how He lived so that we can draw up lessons for how we ought to live.

Today, we are looking at the fact that Jesus lived in total obedience to God, His Father.

From our anchor scripture, we see Jesus saying that his food is to do the will of the Father.

That is all that mattered to Him.

Not His ambitions, not pleasure, not the desires of life, but to do that which He was sent for.

He says in John 9:4, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”

For Him, all He cared about was what God wanted and how He would go about doing it.

His life, His prayers, and everything He did was in total obedience to God. This is how we must live. We must do everything – in words and deeds – to obey the dictates of our Lord.

For Jesus, even when obedience to God meant dying on the cross, He did not mind. This should be our orientation. It does not matter what it is, the life we live is a debt to God and we have to pay Him in total obedience.

Prayer for the Day

Lord, I recognize the need for me to pay the debt I owe you with obedience to Your word, Your will, and Your ordinances. I ask that You give me the grace to walk in complete obedience like Jesus did. Amen.
