Today’s Jesus is Calling Devotional is on Surrendering Control. It addresses the issue of letting go and letting God which is an important step to take if we are ever going to live a fulfilled life.
Bible Verse:“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Control is something we all want to hold onto. We want to plan every detail, predict every outcome, and fix every problem. But life often reminds us that control is an illusion. Unexpected events, unanswered prayers, and unfulfilled dreams can leave us feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. It’s in these moments that God gently calls us to surrender control and trust Him fully.
Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up; it means letting go. It means acknowledging that God’s plans are better than ours and His understanding far exceeds what we can see. When we try to control everything, we leave no room for God to move in His perfect way. But when we release our grip and place our trust in Him, we make space for His peace and guidance.
I’ve experienced times when my plans fell apart, and I was left wondering why. Yet, looking back, I can see how God used those moments to lead me to something greater than I had imagined. Surrendering control doesn’t come naturally—it’s a daily choice to trust God’s wisdom over my own. It’s choosing to believe that even when life feels uncertain, He is still in control.
Jesus modeled this perfectly when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42) Even in His greatest moment of anguish, He trusted the Father’s plan. If Jesus could surrender completely, how much more should we trust our Heavenly Father, who loves us unconditionally?
Today, whatever you’re holding onto—whether it’s fear, worry, or a desire to control—release it to God. Trust that He knows what’s best for you. He is faithful, and He will guide you every step of the way.
Prayer for the Day:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to carry the weight of control. Help me to trust You with my plans, my worries, and my future. Teach me to lean not on my own understanding but to surrender every part of my life into Your capable hands.
Give me the strength to let go of what I cannot change and the faith to follow where You lead. Fill my heart with Your peace, knowing that You are always in control and working all things for my good. Thank You for being my guide and my anchor.
In Your precious name,
Amen.
