Jesus is Calling February 4 Devotional

TOPIC: The Sacrificial Nature of Love

Verse: John 15:13 – “No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.” (AMPC)

Love is more than a feeling; it is a choice. It is easy to love when it feels good or when the other person is kind, but true love goes deeper. Jesus shows us the deepest form of love by laying down His life for us. He didn’t wait for us to be perfect or worthy—He loved us sacrificially, even in our brokenness. This kind of love is costly, and it calls us to give beyond what is comfortable or convenient.

The world often encourages us to hold back, to protect ourselves, and to love with limits. But Jesus teaches us that love without sacrifice is incomplete. To love as He loved requires us to step outside of our comfort zones and to offer ourselves fully to others, even when it means giving up something valuable. Whether it’s our time, our resources, or our own desires, sacrificial love is a choice to put others before ourselves.

In our relationships, it’s easy to love those who love us back, but what about those who don’t show the same love in return? Jesus doesn’t ask us to love only those who make it easy for us. He calls us to love even those who may never appreciate our efforts. In those moments, when our love feels unreciprocated, we can look to Jesus as our example. His love for us wasn’t dependent on what we could offer, but purely on His desire to see us healed and whole.

Sacrificial love is not something we can do in our own strength. It requires the Holy Spirit to empower us and guide us in showing love to others. Today, ask God to help you love beyond your own limitations. Whether it’s forgiving someone who has hurt you or showing kindness to someone who may never return it, trust that God’s love in you is more than enough. Let His love flow through you, and watch how it transforms not only others but your own heart as well.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for showing me the greatest example of love through Jesus’ sacrifice. Help me to love others with the same selflessness, even when it feels hard. Empower me with Your Spirit to love sacrificially, knowing that true love brings healing and transformation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
