Topic: Power in God’s Word
Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 23:29
From our scripture focus, we see some sort of dialogue between God and Prophet Jeremiah. The conversation was about how powerful God’s word is.
God was likening His word to fire and a hammer that is capable of breaking the rock into pieces. The idea is that it does not matter what stands as a hindrance or barrier, God’s word is powerful enough to break them down.
Yesterday, we learned about how all you need is a word from God. The reason all you need is a word from God is because of how powerful His word is.
There are a lot of cases spread through the scriptures where we can see how powerful God’s word is. One of the distinct scenarios is the creation of the world. Can you pause for a second and think about how God created the earth? All He did was to speak. When you read through Genesis 1, all that you will see is that “And God said…”
God spoke the entire world into reality. He didn’t need to build anything or get people to start making constructions. He spoke and things came to life. His words made creation possible. Is there any situation in your life that is so difficult that God’s word cannot fix it? If His words can bring creation to life, is your problem too hard for Him?
Another scenario where we see the power in God’s word is when Jesus asked Peter to let down his nets for a catch in Luke 5. Peter had struggled to catch fish to no avail. He must have done everything in his power with his colleagues and other experienced fishermen. Then Jesus told him to let down his nets again.
I am sure Peter must have felt like Jesus did not fully understand what was happening. Thankfully, he did as Jesus said. What I liked about what he said was “…Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
At your Word.
Your word is powerful enough to bring about results and I will be “foolish” to believe. Can we be “foolish” enough to believe God’s word? Would we take the Word of God for our lives without any form of unbelief even when it looks weird?
The power in God’s word can only truly be accessed when we decide to believe God and trust Him for the performance of His word. This is what the scripture admonishes us to do in Luke 1:45;
Action for the Day: What has God said to you? Believe that He has done it and you will receive it. Do not entertain any form of doubt. Trust God and let Him do what He has said He will do.
