TOPIC: The Word is a Tonic (December 20, 2024)

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Psalm 107:20

When we fall ill, we go to the clinic to get prescription for drugs that can cure us. In our closet, we have a lot of supplements and prescribed medication that are aimed at keeping us in health.

I have nothing against these medications. In fact, I am a firm believer in our healthcare system even though I believe in the miraculous power of God to heal.

In all these, there is an important point to note on the subject of healing that we so often neglect, especially because we can get healing from physical sources. it is the fact that God has made provisions for our healing and one of such provisions is His Word.

Our scripture focus, Psalm 107:20 says that:

This is a clear indication that God’s word has the capacity to heal. It is a tonic for healing. The same way to take drugs is the same way you can take the word of God and get healing for your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body.

You might be wondering. How is this even possible?

God’s word are revealed in the Bible is not just texts and letters alone. It is the very life of God. Jesus said that “the words I speak to you are spirit and life.” They are not dead words. They are living words. In Hebrews 4:12, the NIV translation says that God’s word is alive and active.

As you begin to study God’s word, it has the capacity to come alive and bring life. There are two ways to see this idea. First, it can come alive. That is when you see something in scripture, it can happen in your life. Second, it can bring life. The study of God’s word is the study of the life of God and this impacts life into the one studying.

So, when you read God’s word, the life of God is imparted into you and that life is free from sickness. In Psalm 103:5, the Bible talks about the renewal of one’s youth. That is your life and health can be renewed.

Also, the Word of God has several promises that show that we can be healed.

One of my best is from Isaiah 53:5.

I love the way the scripture puts it. It does not say by His stripes we may be healed. The Bible clearly says that by His stripes we are already healed.

And all you need to do is believe that your healing has happened. It might not look like it but then this is what faith is. Faith is believing that it has happened even before it does because it really has – only a physical manifestation is remaining.

Let me paint a picture for your understanding. When you receive the notification of a wire transfer, do you exactly see the physical cash? No. But then, the notification is all you need to believe that you have that money.

That is faith. You have faith that when you take your debit card to the ATM, you will be able to withdraw money just because you saw an alert which is not a physical representation of anything.

That is how you should see healing. The Word of God says that you are already healed. That is the notification you need and when you fall ill all you need to go is to go and withdraw your healing.
