We Owe God a Personal Debt

Topic: We Owe God a Personal Debt

Verse: Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself. – 1 John 2:6 (AMPC)

As believers, there is an MO for us – a way we are supposed to live. There is no way that you can be careless about how you live if you say you are a believer.

You know, for so many people, knowing the mercy of God and the grace of God, they just think there is nothing exactly bad with living “their” lives.

You hear remarks like “it is my life,” “I am going to live my best life” and so on.

But there is nothing like “my life” when we become born again. The life that we live is supposed to be lived for Christ.

This is what Apostle Paul meant when he said “For me to live is Christ [His life in me]..” – Philippians 1:21 (AMPC).

You may not understand that until you take a cursory gaze at our anchor scripture. The verse says “Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.”

The first key is “as a personal debt.”

You owe God this new life you have and you have to live – not as you want or as the world says you should – but as He who you are indebted to has prescribed for you to live.

The second key is on how you should live.

The way you should live is the way Jesus lived and there is so much we can unpack in how Jesus lived. Scripture is replete with an exposition of Jesus’ life while He was on Earth and over the next 12 days, we will be looking at how He lived.

The progress for today is to have this consciousness – let this mind be in you – that you owe God a personal debt and He expects you to live for Him.

Prayer for the Day

Father, thank You for reminding me that I should live for you. I know I have lived apart from Your will for me and wandered in my wisdom. I am sorry. Today, I decide to live for you and not just in words but in deeds. As I learn about how you live, help me to live just like that. Amen.
